Why does almost every holiday plan in Darien this year come down to the same two Saturdays? On November 21, artisan markets at 120 Brookside Road and 102 Heights Road are open at the same time from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On December 5, the Meadowlands market closes at 2:00, and the Tilley Pond afternoon that ends with the town tree lighting opens at 2:00.
That timing is what defines the 2026 season. Most of the town's big holiday shopping and celebration falls on two Saturdays, two weeks apart. Each day's schedule connects, so each one works best as a single planned outing.
November 21 Puts Two Markets Open at the Same Time
The Darien Nature Center Holiday Market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 120 Brookside Road. It sells handcrafted, sustainable gifts from local artisans and crafters, with food and face painting on site. One thing to check before you go: an older Nature Center page still shows a Saturday, November 23 date with 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. hours. Those are last cycle's details. The 2026 page says November 21, 10 to 2.
Across town, the Pop Shop Holiday Market at Darien Commons runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside sweetgreen at 102 Heights Road. It's free, and the Chamber listing describes a curated lineup of independent makers selling apparel, handmade jewelry, home décor, self-care products and specialty goods. It's part of a series of artisan markets Darien Commons is running with Pop Shop Market.
With the windows overlapping from 11 to 2 and Pop Shop staying open three hours after the Nature Center closes, the order of the day mostly decides itself. Brookside Road closes first, so start there in the morning and finish at Heights Road in the afternoon.
The Commons end of the day already includes lunch. The Darien Commons directory lists Lykos Taverna, Molto, Bareburger, Vavala's Deli, Cosmo's Bagels, Gregorys, Zen Cha Matcha, Chip City and Van Leeuwen among its food and drink names. The directory combines businesses that are open with ones marked coming soon, so check that a specific spot is serving before you plan lunch around it. The same directory places Magnolia at 134 Heights Road and lists Sur La Table and Warby Parker. That gives you more gift stops after the makers' tables.
December 5 Hands Off at 2 p.m.
Two weeks later the schedule changes shape. On November 21 the two markets run side by side. On December 5 they run one after the other. The morning event ends exactly when the afternoon event starts, and the day ends with the town tree lighting.
- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Merry Meadowlands: A Holiday Home & Market, 274 Middlesex Road. The Darien Community Association decorates its Meadowlands estate for the season, and dozens of local retailers and vendors set up a market inside. Admission is free, and the event raises money for the DCA, which is a nonprofit.
- 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., An Old Fashion Holiday, Tilley Pond Park, 40 West Avenue. Darien Parks & Recreation runs a free, all-ages afternoon with cookie decorating, holiday crafts, an ice sculpture display and a second holiday market.
- Close of the afternoon, the holiday tree lighting at Tilley Pond. The town's event listing describes the tree lighting as the end of the afternoon.
The town's map pin for the park reads "Lakeside Avenue and West Avenue," and the event copy gives 40 West Avenue. Both point to the same park. Use whichever entrance is easier for your route.
Since Merry Meadowlands ends at 2:00 and the Tilley Pond program begins at 2:00, you can do both on December 5 without a dead hour in between. Each event also runs its own market. If gift shopping is the goal, the DCA's vendor rooms in the morning and the Parks & Rec market in the afternoon give you two separate shopping sessions in one day.

Thanksgiving Friday Falls in Between
The week between the two Saturdays has its own event. The Darien Depot's 4th Annual Overstuffed Turkey Trot runs Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, on the Darien High School cross-country trail. There's a timed 1-mile walk/run at 10 a.m. and a 5K walk/run at 10:30 a.m. All proceeds go to The Depot, Darien's youth center. According to the Chamber listing, last year's race had more than 550 runners, plus music, children's games and food.
The price goes up as race day gets closer, so when you register matters:
- Adults: $45 through November 1, $50 from November 2 through 26, and $55 on race day, plus fees
- Kids 6 to 12: $30, plus fees
- Early bib pickup: Monday, November 23, noon to 2 p.m., and Tuesday, November 24, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., at The Depot, 25 Heights Road
- Same-day bib pickup: starting at 9 a.m. on race day
This post goes up on October 29, which leaves a few days at the $45 adult price. After the weekend, the next price level takes effect.
The Depot is on Heights Road, the same street as the Darien Commons market. So the Commons area is part of all three holiday weekends: the Pop Shop market on November 21, bib pickup the week of Thanksgiving, and lunch options any day.
Darien Library Brackets the Season
Darien Library has a program 12 days before the first Saturday and another the day after the second. "Holiday Containers with Melissa Kelley" is on Monday, November 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. "A Christmas Carol with Michael Langlois" is on Sunday, December 6, from 2 to 3 p.m., the day after the Tilley Pond tree lighting. Both are on the library's November and December event calendars, which are the place to check for room details and registration.
Downtown Dates Have Not Been Posted Yet
The Post Road side of town isn't on the calendar yet. Last year, Patch reported on Darien's Spirit of the Season schedule. It included a town-wide lights and Shop Small Saturday on November 29, a Darien Sport Shop tree lighting with Santa on Sunday, November 30, and a menorah lighting at Grove Street Plaza on Wednesday, December 17. As of late October, the Darien Chamber's November and December 2026 calendars don't list dates for those events. If they follow last year's pattern, the Saturday after Thanksgiving would make a third weekend. Until the dates are posted, treat that as something to watch for. It isn't on the schedule yet.
Downtown dining has changed since last December. Duchess served its last meals at 306 Post Road on February 1, the Stamford Advocate reported in January. Wonder opened its mini food hall in that space on July 16, 2026, according to a later Stamford Advocate story. Wonder's location page lists daily hours of 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., which covers an evening tree lighting or a late shopping night on the Post Road. In the Corbin District, Tatte Bakery & Café lists its Darien café at 1060 Boston Post Road, Building B, with the status "Opening 2026" and no specific date. Patch reported in April 2025 that this will be the brand's first Connecticut location. If it opens before December, the Post Road would have its own place for a December morning coffee. For now, the Commons and Wonder are the confirmed options.
